et in the flower filled alleys of the old town, two minutes from beach, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars, 3 Rue Jeanne d'Arc is the perfect family holiday home. The ground floor of the main house is made up of a large living room/dining room /kitchen, well equipped with television, washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer. On the first floor is a bathroom and two double bedrooms leading on to a large sunny terrace with views over rooftops and mountains. Up again is a charming child's attic bedroom. Outside, the vine covered barbeque courtyard leads to the annexe consisting of a twin bedded room with mezzanine and bathroom. The whole house sleeps eight comfortably, is bright, friendly and easy to run.

anyuls is a gentle, relaxing, holiday town. It is also the centre of a thriving wine industry specialising in the rich reds of Collioure and the sweet aperitif wine of Banyuls. The Fete des Vendanges takes place in October. The town is full of music, winetasting, grillades on the beach and the celebration of the harvest.

ristide Maillol was born in Banyuls. His sculptures adorn the seafront and the garden of the Town Hall. His museum is a haven of peace in a valley just behind the town.

he little white chapel of Notre Dame de la Salette stands guard over Banyuls, catching the first rays of the morning sun and welcoming pilgrims to mass on the first Sunday of September.

any beautiful and well trodden footpaths start in Banyuls. It is easy to ramble along the coast to Port Vendres and Collioure, over the Col de Banyuls to Spain, or to explore the start of the famous GR10 as it sets off  along the Pyrenees from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic.

wimming in the palm lined bay of Banyuls is safe and supervised. Pedaloes and windsurfers can be hired, diving and sailing are also available. The town is full of a variety of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. There is a market every Sunday and plenty of shops open late into the evening. The railway station has good connections to Perpignan, Girona and Barcelona and the coast road provides easy access to Collioure or Cadeques. It really is a perfect base for a buckets and spades family holiday, for walking, touring or just relaxing........
